A Message from the Athletic Director
Thanks for your interest in Mountaineer Athletics! We are building a world-class program, and we have recruited a select group of coaches who are experts in sport and disciples who love Jesus Christ. We will continue to add new sports, training programs, and facilities as our school grows. We need your skill and drive; feel free to reach out and discuss our program.
For 2024 we plan on adding soccer and track and field.
Read more about the vision for athletics at St. John Paul the Great.

Kate has been an athlete from a young age, engaging in various sports including soccer, basketball, softball, volleyball, and gymnastics, before finally settling on volleyball in high school. She played on both her high school team and a club team throughout her high school years. She attended the University of Denver for college, where she double majored in Biology and Psychology and minored in Chemistry. After graduation, Kate joined FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) and spent the next several years with them, conducting ministry on various college campuses across the country. Jennifer (Jen) Finegan has always appreciated the hard work, dedication, and life lessons that sports have imparted to her throughout her life. She is especially grateful that God has used sports to draw her closer to Him and her Catholic faith, and she loves inspiring others to experience the same. She is a former professional basketball player who competed in Europe, securing two national titles in Portugal and Romania. In college, she played for Vanderbilt University and participated in 4 NCAA appearances and 2 SEC Championships. Her greatest accomplishment and favorite team include her husband, Patrick, and their one-year-old daughter, Eliana. Jen currently works for FOCUS – the Fellowship of Catholic University Students – where she helps to transform the current culture into one that advocates for life for future generations.

Later, she joined the basketball team at the University of Portland in Oregon. Maddie is grateful for the support of her husband, Connor, as well as her two daughters, Gemma, and Veronica.

James currently works full-time for FOCUS – the Fellowship of Catholic University Students – as a manager in the Freedom Project department. This role came after he served as a campus missionary at Seton Hall University for four years. During that time, he also served as FOCUS’s Team Director for two years, ministering to student-athletes in all sports. His passion for Catholic ministry in sports came from a deeper conversion he experienced while being a track and field/cross-country student-athlete at the University of Pittsburgh. Including his time there and in high school in the southeastern Pennsylvania region, he has been running competitively for 14 years, which includes a Boston Marathon finish in October 2021.
