Christ in the City Visit
As part of our formation at JPG, we embark on a service day once per trimester focusing on the works of mercy. On Wednesday, February 15th, our school spent the day with Christ in the City, starting with a convocation from Mark Bauman, the board president and one of the main founders of this important ministry in Denver. Mark shared his powerful and gradual conversion story, explaining how he took a lifetime to realize that everything in his life has been a gift from the Father, even the things he once viewed as a curse or could not make sense out of.
After Mark Bauman's convocation, we received training at the headquarters of Christ in the City before serving Lunch in the Park at Benedict Fountain Park. The Christ in the City missionaries reinforced to our students how frequently people on the street express feeling invisible to the world. The missionaries explained that people often pass them by, look the other way, or attempt to avoid any interaction, leaving them isolated and questioning their self-worth and value. Our students learned firsthand that Lunch in the Park is not only about providing a meal, but also about giving the gift of humanity and friendship to those living on the street. This became evident during our debrief at the end of the day. Each student shared the name of someone they talked to and recounted beautiful, fun, and joyful conversations they had with people that most of the world ignores.
