Mountaineer Spirit Week

Our second-ever Mountaineer Spirit Week was a huge success! Mountaineer Spirit Week coincides with the anniversary of the Canonization of St. John Paul the Great (September 29) and we do it up in style with tons of activities to celebrate JPG! The theme for this year's Mountaineer Spirit Week was "Foundations of Culture." As we seek to grow and build our own culture, we took the time to reflect on major foundations of culture in our world. This was capped off by our households decorating their household wing areas according to their specific theme.

St. Rose of Lima took home first place in this competition as they focused on the Ancient Egyptians. Their outfits were outstanding, their representation of the Nile river flowing through the hallway was excellent and their names on their lockers in hieroglyphics added a beautiful touch. 2nd place was awarded to St. Joan of Arc household, who recreated our Phase 2 construction project in the hallway to represent the physical foundation of our new building and the spiritual foundation being laid every day for the future. 3rd place went to St. Augustine with beautiful representations of Jerusalem as the City of God and Athens as the City of Man. Rounding out the competition with the most creative theme choice was St. Paul household, who focused on a montage of 1970s-ish themes with Elvis, disco balls, and a number of "almost 1970s" references that may have been off by a decade here-or-there, but were creative nonetheless.

Spirit Week featured several dress-down days this year including "Dress Like a Mountaineer" day (which had plenty of interesting interpretations), Favorite Team day, Foundations of Culture day, and JPG Spirit Wear day. Capping off our Spirit Week we hired two dance instructors to come give actual dance lessons during our School Dance—it was a fun and beautiful human experience!
