Meet Waylon Duncan
When asked about why he joined the JPG team, Mr. Waylon Duncan shared the following:
It is a great honor to be a part of the teaching faculty at John Paul the Great! I am excited to be involved in a program which views the educational process as an experience and a training where learning is not an end in itself, but rather an instrument which forms the soul and sets the individual free to be the person and live out the vocation which God made them to. Saint Isidore of Seville defined philosophy, among other things, as the study of matters human and divine with the aim of living well. This definition aptly serves the idea of education - a training in arts and sciences both sacred and mundane with the aim of producing men and women fully alive, capable of employing all of their talents for the common good and the glory of God, and with the help of Divine Grace to achieve heaven.
Over the past several years, I have had the privilege to teach in schools in Pennsylvania and Colorado, covering subjects including Theology, Philosophy, Literature, and Latin. I am looking forward to teaching Latin this coming school year, which gives the key to understanding the logic of language and access to the original texts of much of the most profound literature, prose and verse, that has ever been written. In addition, I am pleased to have the opportunity to teach Medieval History, where Christendom can be viewed at the height of its temporal glory and we can learn much from the virtues and vices of the great men who came before us.
My wife and I (and our infant son) are thrilled to be part of the John Paul the Great community!
