Mountaineer Athletics

Forming Character on
and off the field

Athletics at St. John Paul the Great are an essential part of forming the whole person. Sport is not treated merely as competition or entertainment, but as a training ground for the virtues that shape character and prepare students for life. Through consistent practice, demanding standards, and shared commitment, students learn self-mastery, perseverance, and the willingness to place the good of the team above personal comfort or recognition. The habits formed on the field, showing up, striving, enduring, and finishing well, become habits for life.

Teams at JPG are built on mutual respect, accountability, and loyalty, creating bonds that extend beyond wins and losses. In competition, students learn how to pursue excellence with humility, how to suffer and succeed together, and how to support one another in moments of challenge. In this way, athletics strengthen both body and character, cultivating disciplined effort, sacrificial leadership, and authentic camaraderie within a community shaped by faith and shared purpose.
