Household System
How the JPG Household
System Works
The JPG Household System is a student-centered structure designed to form disciples of Jesus Christ through intentional, small-group community. Rooted in the life of the early Church described in Acts 2:42, our twelve households are single-sex communities of 10–15 students mentored by a dedicated faculty or staff member who models Christian discipleship. Each household draws its identity from a specific Catholic charism, expressed through its name, covenant, prayer life, model of virtue, and shared commitments. Students discern and choose their household, fostering ownership, belonging, and authentic friendships across grade levels.
Regular meetings, conversations, communal prayer, and a common Household Liturgy provide both consistency and flexibility for meaningful formation. Households are further united within Saint Communities, encouraging broader collaboration and school spirit. The impact on students is profound: deeper spiritual formation, stronger peer relationships, personal accountability, leadership development, and a lived experience of the Catholic intellectual and spiritual tradition within the daily life of the school.
Throughout the year, households also engage in competitions that encourage teamwork, perseverance, and healthy rivalry. Points are awarded for participation, leadership, and excellence, and the household that best embodies these values is honored with the Household Cup.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
No, students do not get automatically placed into a household. At the beginning of the year, freshmen get aquatinted with the different houses and their charisms and then choose a house to be a part of for their time at JPG.
-
No, all of the households at JPG are same sex.
-
Students are intended to say in the same household for the remainder of their time at JPG. Consistency cultivates deeper relationships which is why we don’t typically allow “house-hopping.”
