Meet Helen Blain

When asked why she joined the JPG team, Latin Fellow Helen Blain said:

“Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I grew up the fifth of six siblings.  Throughout my childhood and into my adolescent years, I was very passionate and motivated for the sport I loved greatly, soccer.  In high school, however, the Lord diverted my life from a future characterized by soccer as the highest priority to a life marked by a love for learning.  I completed my undergraduate degree at Thomas Aquinas College, located in the beautiful hills of Southern California, where I enjoyed a unique educational experience consisting of a classical curriculum accompanied by the classroom approach of the socratic method.  Upon graduation, I continued my education and formation at the Augustine Institute, where my philosophical undergraduate formation was beautifully supplemented by a Scriptural approach to the truths of theology.  On account of this approach, my love for learning has extended beyond the sphere of the theoretical, to a deep understanding that what I know to be true is not simply a matter of the mind but also a matter of the heart.

Having benefited from the classical education of Thomas Aquinas College and further, having been formed by the pedagogical approach of the Augustine Institute to the great truths of theology, I am excited to contribute to St. John Paul the Great Catholic High School as a teaching fellow.  Immediately upon hearing about the mission and approach of JPG, I desired to participate in its noble and much needed mission.  I am eager to help form students through a curriculum that seeks not only to teach according to the classical method but seeks to teach with a view to the formation of the whole person.  As a teaching fellow of Latin, I look forward to teaching students a language that is not only valuable as the origin of the romance languages, but is the universal language of our Mother, the Church.”
