Veritas Speaker Series: Brian Burch
Inspiring Faith and Civic Duty
Last week, St. John Paul the Great hosted Brian Burch, President of CatholicVote, for our biannual Veritas Speaker Series. His visit left a lasting impact on our students and community members, encouraging them to become more involved in civic duties and proud of their Catholic faith.
Brian Burch, who leads CatholicVote, an organization dedicated to advocating for faith, family, and freedom, began his speech with a captivating story about St. Joseph of Cupertino. Known for his extraordinary supernatural gifts, St. Joseph is the patron saint of test takers, a fitting anecdote for our high school audience.
Burch emphasized the importance of Catholics learning about their faith and actively participating in the world as good citizens. He acknowledged the challenges facing the United States but also highlighted the many blessings we enjoy. He reminded us that with these blessings comes the responsibility always to strive to improve our country.
He referenced C.S. Lewis, who identified the three greatest things in the world: truth, beauty, and goodness. These attributes, Burch explained, are reflections of God and His creation. By taking our lives seriously and allowing these transcendentals to permeate our existence, we can find great fulfillment. In doing so, we will have a profound influence on those around us, including our country. Together, we can ensure our nation remains a place of hope, freedom, and faith.
