St. John Paul the Great Catholic High School Opens it’s Doors for the 2026-2027 School Year!

On Friday, August 14th, St. John Paul the Great Catholic High School opened its doors once again to almost 200 incredible students. Each year they have welcomed more and more families into the JPG family, and they are excited for what is in store for this year.

JPG has a special tradition where all of the students, faculty, staff, and families line the hallways and clap in the incoming class of freshmen; the proper welcome to an exceptional school year. This year the hallways roared louder than in any year before with the cheers of our Mountaineers. The incoming freshmen beamed as they saw all the smiles and cheers welcoming them.

This was followed by some inspiring words from our President, Jeff Kummer, for convocation. Jeff reflected on the beginnings of St. John Paul the Great and highlighted how far this resilient community has come. He paved the way for one of the most beautiful Masses, celebrated by Denver's Archbishop Golka. JPG was incredibly honored to have Archbishop Golka celebrate Mass on the students' first day of school. Truly, the Lord was on the move.

After the reverent Mass, students changed out of their uniforms and into their Household activity clothes for an exciting afternoon. Then came the moment every freshman had been waiting for: community sorting! All of our freshmen got sorted into the student-led communities that they will be in for the duration of their time at JPG. Not to be redundant, but the energy was electric!

After students were sorted into their communities, their team-building was put to the test. They got to partake in an array of competitions, including tug-of-war, tic-tac-toe relays, and sponge relays! It was the perfect afternoon for friendly competition!
